North Road Primary School in Darlington is a timber frame project, designed and erected by Elvet Structures Ltd, which consists of a glulam frame with timber frame infill.

The structure incorporates some of the latest developments in environmental design and timber engineering. PEFC timbers and cedar cladding are used throughout the project. At the same time, the main glulam portal frames and curved roof have been covered with an organic Sedum roof finish, making this one of the greenest projects undertaken in the North of England.

The design boasts a large sports hall which spans 20LM x 10LM in structural timber without internal supports. Indeed, the whole of the main structure was erected without steelwork and was constructed entirely from laminated timber.

Elvet Structures were awarded the contract based upon their vast experience of large construction projects, and a history of overcoming the technical problems that are associated with such designs.

Engineers and the skilled workforce at Elvet Structures supplied and erected the whole structure well within the allotted timescale and are justifiably proud to demonstrate their skills in constructing such an extensive and complex environmentally sustainable project.
